Emma Bourne was given the NGC 2017 scholarship by Lenore Salzbrunn, past president. Here are some photos of the event and a short biography written by Emma.

My name is Emma Bourne and I am a recent alum of Leland and Gray and eighteen year occupant of the town of Brookline. Throughout my time in school my interests have spread beyond the classroom. I love to be outdoors, from time spent in the garden with my mom to running and trotting around the soccer field. My interests based in the outdoors, exercise and time spent in the garden and translated into learning about both nutrition and cooking. I love making food that tastes good and is good for you! I am also passionate about seeing the world. During my four years of high school I have travelled to three different countries. In 2014 I travelled to China for a month with the Journey East program, to Spain for fifteen days in February of 2016 and to Costa Rica in April 2016 to a sea turtle conservation where I volunteered for fifteen days. Lastly, I inherited a love for crafts from both my grandmother and my mother. I have long been doing pottery, sewing and knitting and have recently gotten into embroidery. My life so far has provided me with a variety of thing that continuously bring me happiness.

I'm not sure what my future holds but that excites me. After twelve years in the education system, I am thrilled to have that freedom before entering into higher education. For the next year I am hoping to do a couple of trips abroad and maybe within the US. I hope to take a trip to Greece to participate in World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) where I would work on a farm in return for room and board. I am also hoping to travel back to Montezuma, Costa Rica to do a teaching program in a rural school in the same town of the conservation I worked on. Between my travels, I am excited to be able to work and take some classes at the community college.
