Club Flower: Closed Gentian

The Closed Gentian is a perennial and is considered to be an herb because of its medicinal value. This plant grows to 1 - 2 feet high and blooms in the Fall. The petals of the flower never open so the flower looks like a bud. This characteristic gives it its name "closed." The plant grows best in the shade and in wet, slightly acidic, rich soil. Bees are attracted to the flowers.
