Lenore Salzbrunn warmly welcomed all members and guests to the 78th Annual Luncheon and Meeting of the Newfane Garden Club..
Sadly, Irene Wenker's husband Bud died recently. The Club will send a donation in memorial to Grace Cottage Hospital. Cards of sympathy and best wishes sent to Irene will be greatly appreciate during her time of grief.
This year's scholarship winner is Zoe Soule from Leland and Gray High School. Zoe will attend UVM and major in Environmental Studies. She enjoys sport and the theater. By a unanimous vote, the scholarship amount increased from $500 to $750 because there is extra money in this year's budget.
Alice Freeman updated us on the garden tours schedule July 10. The day will start at 10:00 am at the home of Rosalind Fritz in Newfane. Two gardens in Brookline have been selected but not confirmed. The last garden is at the home of Maggie Bills in Townshend. Please bring a picnic lunch. Dessert and beverages will be provided. Additional information will be sent as soon as it is available. Check the website for garden and location information.
Sally Topitzer reported a profit of $1050.25 from this year's plant sale. The bake sale sold $233.75 and plants were 826.50. It was a great day for those who helped and Sall
y appreciated the large number of volunteers who helped before the plant sale pricing, labeling and organizing the plants and during the sale convincing buyers to indulge in the joy of gardening. We had a wonderful variety of plants to sell, so many thanks to those who donated plants. The bake sale was equally successful with many delicious cakes, cookies, bars, etc.
Janis reminded everyone to submit Club dues of $18 and if interested a donation of $2 to the scholarship fund for next year. Please send checks directed to her before the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned and we all enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Grafton Inn, Grafton, VT.
